Handpiece - Dental Simulator
Privacy Policy
Updated
Handpiece has no accounts and collects nothing that identifies you. Your work stays on your iPad or iPhone; only anonymous score summaries and crash reports are sent, to power benchmarks and fix bugs.
What stays on your device
Your preparations, grades, progress, anatomy mastery and settings are stored only on the iPad or iPhone you use Handpiece on. Deleting the app, or Settings › Reset data, removes them.
What is sent, and why
When the app can reach the Handpiece server, it sends the following. Nothing is sent without a network connection, and a build without a benchmark server sends nothing at all.
- Graded attempt summaries, to compute benchmark percentiles: the exercise and its content version, score, pass or fail, practice or exam mode, critical errors, each rubric criterion's grade and measured value, how long the preparation took, when it was finished, and the app version.
- A random install identifier sent with those summaries. The app creates it on first use; it is not derived from your device, your Apple Account or you. It lets the server discard duplicate uploads and limit how much any single install contributes to a benchmark. Reset data replaces it, after which earlier uploads can no longer be associated with this device.
- Crash and hang reports, to fix bugs: Apple's MetricKit diagnostic reports and reports of app errors, with the app version, the iPadOS or iOS version and the device model. They are not linked to the install identifier.
What is never collected
No name, email address, account, contacts, location, photos, microphone or camera data, advertising identifier or browsing history. Handpiece contains no advertising, no third-party analytics or crash SDKs, and does not track you across apps or websites.
Network addresses
Like any internet service, the server sees the IP address a request comes from. It is used only in memory, to limit request rates and how much any one network adds to a benchmark, and is never written to the database.
How benchmarks use your scores
Benchmarks compare a score with other attempts at the same exercise, content version and mode. Each install counts with at most its first 3 attempts per exercise, and nothing is published until at least 10 attempts exist, so no individual score can be singled out. Every uploaded attempt still receives its own percentile.
Retention
Attempt summaries are deleted 24 months after upload; crash and hang reports after 90 days.
Sharing
Data is never sold or shared with third parties. It is stored with the hosting provider that runs the Handpiece server, only to operate it.
Audience
Handpiece is a training tool for dental students, dentists and faculty. It is not directed at children.
Changes and questions
If this policy changes, the new version appears in the app and on the web with a new date. Questions are welcome through the support page.
This website
handpiece.app sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising, and loads nothing from other sites. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which handles the technical details every web request carries, such as IP address and browser type, only to deliver and protect the site.
